Family, Father's Day and 5k

The past few weekends of June have been very busy, but very fun!  Last Friday night we went home for Mike's 30th birthday.  Mom and Dad had a bonfire, we talked about how awesome Mikey is, and then did our sparkler tradition.  We light up the sparkler by the shed and then run as fast as we can for as long as we can until the sparkler runs out.  My parents have a huge yard, so it's pretty fun.  It was Alaina and Deb's first time doing it and they both did great;)

The next morning, we all went to church to play 'Agnus Dei' with Dad for Father's day.  He has had this song picked out for years and has always wanted us all to play it in church.  We haven't been able to perform it yet, but it sounded pretty good!  Deb on violin, Dad on drums, Nat on Piano, Mike and Ryan on guitar, and Mom and I singing.  It's pretty fun praising the Lord with your family.  Someday dad! 

That afternoon we went Lake Summerset for a Saar Family Reunion.  We did see a lot of them last week, but you never really get to visit that much at a wedding.  All but 2 of our cousins were there, so it was great catching up with everyone.

Saturday evening we headed home, and woke up bright and early on Sunday to pick of Mike and Deb and head to Montrose Harbor for the Rock N' Roll Chicago 5k.  Deb and I stuck together the whole time.  I'm so happy she did it with us because I probably would've gone a LOT slower.  We thought the second mile was take for-ev-er, but it turned out we missed the 2-mile marker.  We started to hear the music at the finish and ended up with a 28:14.  It's not very fast, but we were shooting for under 30, so we were happy.  Ryan ran it in 24 min.

On the way back to Elmhurst, we stopped at Deb's sister Val's house to see her and meet her daughter Ruby.  She smiled the whole time we were there!  What a sweetie.  We went to Portillo's for lunch, and then went to the open house at the new hospital in Elmhurst.  It was the greatest open house EVER!  Ice cream, lemonade, pretzels, sno-cones, popcorn, caramel corn, corndogs, nachos, pickles...all FREE!  We definitely ate too much.

That pretty much sums up Ryan's first Father's Day.  He's only been a dad for a few months but man is he ever a natural!
